Peter is the result of an affair between two Oxford undergraduates. Hamish his father was an extremely intelligent person although somewhat erratic in his behaviour. He disappeared in the brain drain to America. Peter was a very difficult child with violent mood swings nevertheless very intelligent.
He developed obsessions with his work and his life and he became somewhat of a genius following the gift of a Wimshurst Machine. His honorary uncle follows his chaotic life becoming entangled with situations including heartbreak, danger and meeting an old adversary. The ending is traumatic and decisive. Will this really be the end?
